Important Announcement: Hepatitis A

Important Announcement: Hepatitis A

If you ate strawberries at any Tropical Smoothie location in Virginia, in food or smoothies, between August 5th and August 8th, you may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

The current CDC recommendations are to be vaccinated against the Hepatitis A virus within 2 weeks of exposure. If you ate there on the 8th, today is the last day to get the vaccine!!!  Please call your PCP, local pharmacy, or urgent care to assess availability of vaccinations.

If you are outside the vaccination window, please monitor for symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dark urine
  • Clay-colored bowel movements
  • Joint pain
  • Jaundice (a yellowing of the skin or eyes)

Report them to your PCP as soon as possible. If you are pregnant, it is still advised you receive the vaccine as outlined above. Remember to always practice good hand hygiene, which includes washing with soap and warm water after using the bathroom, changing a diaper, or before preparing food, as this can help prevent the spread of Hepatitis A.
