MonaLisa Touch Therapy is a minimally invasive treatment used to improve the health and pliability of the vaginal mucosa or inner lining of the vagina.

The laser uses light energy to penetrate deep into the layers of the vaginal wall to stimulate collagen. The vaginal tissue returns to a state that was present prior to the changes induced by menopause, like atrophy (thinning of the vaginal wall) and dryness due to a decrease in estrogen.

What happens during treatment?

The procedure will seem similar to your annual exam and will likely be even quicker. Your healthcare provider will insert the laser into your vagina and deliver laser energy "pulses." The total procedure time is less than five minutes.

Does it hurt?

The laser pulses itself are virtually painless. Some patients report mild discomfort with the laser insertion during the first procedure if there is vaginal dryness.

How soon can I expect results?

Many patients have reported that they experience relief right away. Virtually all patients have experienced relief by the second treatment, however optimal results are seen after the third treatment.

How long do treatment results last?

MonaLisa Touch provides lasting results. A once-a-year single treatment is recommended to maintain symptom relief. This can be done quickly and conveniently during your annual checkup.

Is this procedure safe for breast cancer patients?

Yes, the MonaLisa Touch therapy is particularly well suited for patients who cannot, or prefer not to, receive estrogen therapy.

What are my limitations after each procedure?

Patients should refrain from sexual activity for 2-3 days. Your provider will determine a post-procedure regimen that is right for you.

Is this treatment effective for lichen sclerosus?

Yes, when used in conjunction with other treatments many patients have experienced significant relief.
