Barbara S. Haywood joined Peninsula Women’s Care in June 2014. While her experiences allow her to provide care to women across the age span, she enjoys working with adolescents and young adults. She also works with women who experience problems with incontinence and menopause.

Barbara graduated from Hampton Institute with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1973 and earned a Master of Science Degree in Pediatric Nursing from the University of Virginia in 1979. She earned the title as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from UVA in 1976 and the title of Obstetrical & Gynecological Nurse Practitioner from Hampton Institute in 1982.
Prior to joining Peninsula Women’s Care, Barbara was employed as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Hampton Institute for 17 years, as a Nurse Practitioner at Olde Towne Medical Center in Williamsburg for 10 years, and as a Nurse Practitioner for 13 years with Dr. Charlie M. Faulk.
Barbara and her husband of 44 years, Kenneth, live in Williamsburg. She is the proud mother of three grown sons, Keenan, Landon and Marcus; and grandmother of five grandsons: Jaden, Ian, Landon, Austin and Kellen, and two granddaughters: Nora and Rylee.
She enjoys traveling, and participating in family and church activities. She is a member of St. John Baptist Church in Williamsburg where she serves as the president of the Health Ministry, president of the Church Council Steering Committee and supporter of two of the youth ministry programs (“Just 4 Girls” and “Boys 2 Gents”) She is active in the community, having served for the last 28 years on the York County School Board, past president of the Virginia School Board Association and past member of the Board of Directors of the National School Board Association.
Barbara is also a member of the Board of Directors for Riverside Lifelong Health and Aging Related Services; member of the Greater Williamsburg Women’s Association; member of the Williamsburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; lifetime member of the NAACP; Member, American Nurses’ Association/Virginia Nurses’ Association/Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners
She was recently recognized for her 25 years of service on the York County School Board, having recently been re-elected to the School Board for a 4-year term.
In 2015 Barbara was awarded the J. Blaine Blayton Community Service Award by the York-James City-Williamsburg NAACP and recognized by the Daily Press as a Woman of Distinction.
